Ninja Squirrels

March 6, 2007

So, I have this squirrel problem. Everytime I put out the garbage in the trash cans in my back yard the stupid squirrels get into it. Food and various yucky stuff ends up all over my yard and needless to say picking it up isn't a joy.

Now, these squirrels have no fear. They usually come in a gang and attack even when we are sitting outside. One has even come right up to my face and given that look that he just may mug me.

We've tried ropes to hold down the lip, chains and various other apparatus, but it's no use. They jump from the trees with their ninja moves, twisting and turning until landing in a perfect pattern by the garbage. They chew their way through the lid (which accounts for the various holes) until they reach their booty.

Now if anyone has any squirrel repellant ideas it would be much appreciated :)

Dear Stefanie, Your art is amazing. I live in the country in Oregon and we have no squirrel problem, even though I have seen them on other people's property. The reason is: I have 4 CATS. My cats keep the squirrels away. So just get a couple of cats, make sure they can get in and out of the house, and your problem will surely go away! Loyal Jess

awwwwww man! Those fuckers are bold! They get used to humans and get together and it's mayhem! Sounds like they are trying to do a takeover! Yikes! I would say try traps or call your local animal control. Good Luck, try sprinkling red pepper or baking soda inside the trash bags before you shut them, the smell might not be very welcome for them. Good luck with the invasion! ; ) -Monica

Put vaseline on the top of the can, ROFL.

Or you can just start carrying a taser with you ...

the question is your trash can that rubbery plastic or metal? I imagine they may have a more difficult time getting into a metal can....at least they are furry and cute as evil as they may be...I had a cockroach fly at my head when I was in Norht Carolina a few years ago...that was Scary..and nasty

OMG! Ninja Squirrels! I just got the funniest image of that in my head! LMAO! Sorry, not sure what to do about them buggers! I actually love squirrels but they can be a neusance! Have you tried putting out feed for them? Like in squirrel feeders? Perhaps if they already have plenty of food and are full they won't be so determined to get into your trash!

I have a useful idea lol, pur hairspray on the lid of the garbage can, then use something to hold it down. This will keep them from bitting through the lid to get to ur trash (although it is a good idea to kinda layer the whole trash can with hairspray) I know it sounds rediculous, but we've (my family and I) have had that problem before. lol.

      Squirells are evil lol. goodluck.
